Since the establishment of Costessey Park Golf Club in 1984, the men’s section has grown substantially. Members come from all backgrounds and undoubtedly belie the view of golf as an elitist activity. The men’s section is open and welcoming – everyone knows everyone else and our golf is played in friendship and humour but still with that competitive edge.
One of the main aspects within the men’s section is the consistently high number of matches with other clubs. We are constantly told by other clubs that one of the first fixtures to be filled up with names is the match against Costessey Park! We are grateful for such compliments and at the same time proud of what others in the county say about our club.
Competitions within the men’s section run throughout the year. Monthly medal and stableford events are interspersed with special events such as the Club Championship, Captain’s Day and competitions to mark special occasions such as Remembrance Day. A typical example of the character of the club is the Mid Summer Madness Competition – on or around the 21st June we start the round at 4.30 a m! This is followed by breakfast in the clubhouse – a great way to start the day.
The men’s section is proud to have within its ranks two former County Captains and a former County President. In recent years we have also had notable success at County Level, winning individual titles and having a number of members represent the County at the highest level. We currently have two professionals representing us in Tournaments: Chase Davis, a former junior member here who captained England Schoolboys, represents Costessey Park on the Europro and Jamega tours; Ian Ellis, former PGA East Region order of merit winner, who has three times participated in the PGA Championship at Wentworth alongside the European Tour's finest.
A section within the club with great character and filled with some great characters is the best way to describe the men’s section at Costessey Park. A backbone of the club, it provides support to all other areas and is always there to proffer a helping hand to each and every member of the club.
